B-day dinner at Zambra: me, Laura, Kelly & Susan
I believe that I have previously mentioned on this blog that I will be turning 40 later on this month. This past weekend, I kicked off the festivities a little early with a girls’ weekend trip to Asheville, NC! The weekend was organized in its entirety by my dear friend Kelly. I did not have to do a thing other than just show up!
Believe it or not, I have never been on a true girls’ weekend before. I have to admit that it was a little difficult for me to be the center of attention for an entire weekend. I am not used to being celebrated in any significant way, and I did feel a little uncomfortable at times. I worried on and off that I was causing my friends to spend too much money on the hotel, going out to eat, drinks, etc. I also had to deal with feelings of unworthiness – I wondered if I really deserved the fantastic treatment that I was getting!
I did not expect all of these feelings to come up, and I learned a lot about myself by going on this trip. Luckily, I managed to work through my feelings of discomfort over the course of the weekend, and I had a wonderful time! I am extremely grateful to Kelly, Susan, and Laura for celebrating with me, and I have some wonderful memories to take with me into the next decade of my life!!!
Today, I am appreciating being at ease with being celebrated! How comfortable are you with allowing your family and friends to truly honor you?
